Take Time for Yourself

 

take time for yourselfSpring has arrived and with it comes new growth.  It’s a great time to be outdoors, enjoy the blooms of the flowers – the daisies, the amaryllis, the Easter lilies, and the new growth of grass.  It’s also a great time to take a few minutes for yourself and reflect on your own growth.

Why go through this preparation?

– Because we are human beings.

This preparation, if done right, can be painful, but as Rumi states, “The wound is the place where the light enters”.  We need to continue each year to crack the shell of our humanity in order to see the light of our Creator and realize there is more than life here on Earth.  Earth is just part of the journey.

How do we go through this preparation?

Our journey of growth happens through reflection.  By spending time quieting our mind we can hear the voice of our soul and understand the journey we’re on and where we need to go next.

So my challenge for you this month is to take 10 minutes of your day to sit in quiet, turn off your cell phone, I Pad, TV, Music, friends and family.  These 10 minutes are for you.  Sit comfortably and close your eyes, relax your body, and black out your thoughts and ideas, allow your mind to rest in the darkness.  No thinking, list making, or  idea forming allowed.  Just sit in the darkness and emptiness.

There are some wonderful physical side effects of giving yourself these 10 minutes a day. These 10 minutes will reduce the stress of your day and lower your blood pressure, glucose levels, and the cortisol that builds belly fat, and reduce any other stress related physical symptoms.
